Disable "Show Updates" option in Add/Remove Programs

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003
The user has the option of selecting programs/installed updates to hide or display in Add/Remove Programs in Windows 2003 SP1 and Windows XP SP2.
More software updates are being created these days and they all can be shown in
change or remove program list. The installed programs and the updates can be shown separately.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “\CurrentVersion\Policies\Uninstall\” is not present, create it as explained below. Create a REG_DWORD value name "DontGroupPatches" (if this value doesn't exist). Right Click on the Option “DontGroupPatches”, and from the drop down menu, select Modify. Enter the value "1" to enable the setting.

Close the registry.

Restart the system.

Disable the filtering option.reg

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘Show Updates’ option is disabled in Add/Remove Programs.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policie s\Uninstall\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "DontGroupPatches" in "Uninstall" key.

Next, right-click on "DontGroupPatches" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) without quotation in he text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.

Disable access to the “Users” system icon (For Current User in Win 98/Me).

Disable the ability to change password (For Current User).

You can customize the display of the Control Panel applets. With this setting you can disable the ability to change password using “Passwords” system icon in the current applets group.

Disable the ability to change password (For All Users).

You can customize the display of the Control Panel applets. With this setting you can disable the ability to change password using “Passwords” system icon in the current applets group.

Prevent changes to virtual memory settings (For Current User).

With this setting you can prevent changes to the default virtual memory settings using the “Display” system icon in Control Panel.
