Change pattern in 'Drive Labels' display in Windows Explorer

This setting enables to manipulate the display pattern of "Drive Labels" in Windows Explorer.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000
Windows Explorer displays the drive labels in the form of "Volume Name" and then "DRIVE:", for example Programs (D:). It adds the server name also if a networking is being used, which results in drive label not being displayed properly. With this setting, the drive letter is displayed first or at least, it should be visible to the user.

For this, you have to make changes in the registry. Go to "Start->Run" and enter "regedit" and click "OK". Search the key. Create the DWORD value "ShowDriveLettersFirst" in the right panel and double-click on it. Now, set the decimal data value and Replace the variable Pattern_Value with the data value, which has been listed here:

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

'Drive Labels' are changed in ‘Windows Explorer’.

Default 'Drive Labels' are visible in ‘Windows Explorer’.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "ShowDriveLettersFirst" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "ShowDriveLettersFirst" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "4" (Base Hexadecimal) without quotation in he text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.
