Change the compressed files color inside the Explorer

This setting lets you change the color of the compressed file.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003
When a file is compressed in Windows, there is an option in Explorer to display it in a different color to easy identification. This setting lets you define the color to use. The default color is blue.

Some changes will have to be done in the registry to make these changes.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\CurrentVersion\Explorer” is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create a binary value name “AltColor”, if this value does not exist. Now, right-click and modify the value data box with the desired color code as given below.

For default, delete this entry.

Logoff or restart the system.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The compressed files color inside the Explorer is changed to Red.

The compressed files color inside the Explorer is Blue by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\] key, right-click on the right pane and click on "New > Binary Value" to create a new Binary value with the name "AltColor".

Third, right-click on the 'AltColor' Binary value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "00 FF 00" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Clear the search arguments from Find dialog box.

Change the description of “.EXE” files in Windows Explorer.

This tweak is used to change the description of “.EXE” files in Windows Explorer when you click on the Details in View menu.

Hide “Shortcut to” prefix to any new shortcut you create.

This setting will hide shortcut to prefix for any new shortcut, you create.

Show the extension for the Shortcut into a Document (.SHB) files.

Category : Display > Files & Folders

This setting enables you to show the “.SHB” files extension. If you have a file for example “Work”, you can show the extension that it looks like “Work.shb”.
