Disable caching of thumbnail views.

If you view Thumbnail pictures in the Explorer, Windows will save the view of all visited folders in a cache. You can disable the caching of Thumbnail pictures.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003
If you view Thumbnail pictures in the Explorer, Windows will save the view of all visited folders in a cache to load pictures faster next time you open the folder. You can disable the caching of Thumbnail pictures.

If Windows saves the thumbnail view for a particular folder, it will save the caching in a file called "thumbs.db". So every visited folder will have the hidden file "thumbs.db", if you enable caching of the thumbnail view. If you remove this file, you won’t have any problems with your system stability.

This setting also raises the usage of the hard disk. If you have a lot of folders of pictures and you are using other programs than the Explorer, you can disable this setting.

If you have fewer folders of pictures, you can enable this setting. If you use this tweak, Windows won't create a "thumbs.db" file in a viewed folder any more.

For this go to "Start->Run" and enter "regedit" and search the keys listed below. You can create one DWORD value "DisableThumbnailCache", if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to "1" to disable the caching of Thumbnail pictures. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to "0". After a restart the changes take effect.
