Disable using Web service to check for unknown file types (All Users).

If you open an unknown file type, Windows will prompt to use the Web service to find the associated application. This setting enables you evade the step and go directly to the programs list.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
If an unknown file type is opened, Windows starts Web Service dialog to find the associated application. This setting enables the user to go directly to the program list.

The web service picks up the information about file name extensions, file types and the applications to use with them and provide the user the ability to open a file. The operating system has the ability to open the file type with the associated application or component.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\Explorer” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a DWORD value “NoInternetOpenWith” under “Explorer” subkey.

Now, right-click and modify its value data to “1” which can disable using Web service. However, if you want to show the message back, change the value to “0” or delete the value name.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.
