Hide “Shortcut to” prefix to any new shortcut you create.

This setting will hide shortcut to prefix for any new shortcut, you create.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
Whenever you create any shotcut, then Windows will add the text "Shortcut to.." to that shotcut description. For example, make a shortcut to any folder in a drive, Windows automatically adds "Shortcut to.." to the exact description. If you are not interested in this type of display then you will have to make some modifications in the registry.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the Binary value “Link” to “00 00 00 00” which can hide the “Shortcut to” prefix. However, if you want to add the prefix back, change the value data to “1D 00 00 00”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

NOTE:
"Shortcut" is suffix in Windows Vista.

Hide Shortcut Prefix.reg

The '.reg' file will hide 'Shortcut to' prefix.

Show Shortcut Prefix.reg

The '.reg' file will display 'Shortcut to' prefix.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

'Shortcut to' prefix is hidden.

'Shortcut to' prefix is visible by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\] and right click on the Binary value "Link" and select 'Modify'.

Finally, set the 'Value Data' to "00000000" and click 'OK' to hide 'Shortcut to' prefix.

Clear the search arguments from Find dialog box.

Hide the shortcut mark from an Internet shortcut (.URL) file.

This setting will hide the shortcut mark from any new Internet shortcut (*.URL) you create.

Change the description of “.EXE” files in Windows Explorer.

Show the extension for the Shortcut into a Document (.SHB) files.

This setting enables you to show the “.SHB” files extension. If you have a file for example “Work”, you can show the extension that it looks like “Work.shb”.

Hide the shortcut mark from a “.LNK” file.
