Show compressed files in an alternate color.

This tweak lets you change the colors of compressed files and folders in the Explorer to distinguish them easily.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
When a file or folder is compressed, it is displayed in a different color in Explorer. The user can define the color to use.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, create a DWORD value name “ShowCompColor”, if the value does not exist, in the right panel. Right-click it and modify the data value to “1” to enable the use of alternate colors and “0” to use default colors.

Click “OK” and close the registry editor.

Logoff or restart the system to see the changes taking effect.

Don't show compressed files in color.reg

The'.reg' file will not show compressed files in color.

Show compressed files in color (Default).reg

The'.reg' file will show compressed files in color.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Alternative color for Compressed file is disabled.

Alternative color for Compressed file is enabled by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type 'regedit'.

Next, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\] and right click on the DWORD value 'ShowCompColor' and select 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as '0' to disable alternative color for Compressed file.

Clear the search arguments from Find dialog box.

Show the extension for the Shortcut into a Document (.SHB) files.

Category : Display > Files & Folders

This setting enables you to show the “.SHB” files extension. If you have a file for example “Work”, you can show the extension that it looks like “Work.shb”.
