Hide “My Network Places” icon from Desktop and Windows Explorer.

You have a choice to display the desired standard icons on the Desktop. If you don’t use any network services, you can hide the “My Network Places” icon from Desktop and Windows Explorer.

You have a choice to display the desired standard icons on the Desktop. If you don’t use any network services, you can hide the “My Network Places” icon from Desktop and Windows Explorer. “My Network Places” enables you to access network configured in home or small office environment or at wide area.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “NoNetHood”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value data to “1” which can hide the “My Network places” icon on desktop. However, if you want to show the icon back, change the value to “0”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Standard icon 'My Network Places' is removed from the Desktop.

'My Network Places' icon is visible by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion Policies\Explorer\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoNetHood" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoNetHood" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" (Base Hexadecimal) in the text box and click on 'OK'.
