Windows show normally “.BMP” files with the default generic icon, but you can specify that Windows should use special icons of “.BMP” files. This setting will display a miniature of bitmap image instead of the default icon.

Important:
If you apply this setting using IE 5 with ActiveDesktop installed it may crash down Windows Explorer.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the data of “Default” String value to “%1” which can show special icons for “.BMP” files.

However, if you want to revert to default icons look, change the value data to “shimgvw.dll,1”.
