Set the path of MP3 codecs.

This tweak lets you set the fully qualified path to the location of the codec as well as the file name of the codec.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
Windows Media Player has plug-in support for MP3 encoding. You must have licensed third party compatible MP3 encoder. Windows supports the functions of Audio Compression Manager to communicate with the MP3 encoders. Windows Media Player supports only plugging in an MP3 encoder. Only compressions supported by codec create valid MP3 files. The codec accept only raw data and output-compressed data.

With this setting you can set the complete path and file name of the preferred MP3 codec.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys, “\Settings\MP3Encoding” do not exist, create them as explained below. Then, create a string value name, “PreferredCodecPath” in the right panel. Now, right-click and modify its value with the complete path and file name of the codec.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

NOTE:
The value for PreferredCodec is limited to 255 characters.
