Disable MS-DOS prompt (For Current User).

This tweak lets you disable the use of the MS-DOS prompt in Windows.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me
MS-DOS is a command line interpreter which can be disabled through this registry setting.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “Disabled” in the right panel, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can disable MS-DOS prompt. However, if you want to enable the option back, change the value data to “0” or delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

The ".reg" file can disable MS-DOS prompt in Windows.

Enable MS-DOS Command Prompt (Current user) (default).reg

The ".reg" file can enable MS-DOS prompt in Windows.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The user is not allowed to use the MS-DOS prompt and gets an error message when he tries to open it.

The user is allowed to use the MS-DOS prompt.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WinOldApp\] key, right-click on the blank area in the right pane and click on "New > DWORD Value" to create a new DWORD value with the name "Disabled".

Third, right-click on the 'Disabled' DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Enable quick editing on Command Prompt (For Current User).
