Hide “WMI Control” snap-in from Computer Management console file.

This setting can hide the snap-in “WMI Control” from Computer Management console file.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
“WMI Control” is a tool that enables you to configure Windows Management Instrumentation settings on a remote computer or local computer. It can be accessed from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. But, with this setting you can hide this snap-in from Computer Management console file.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “\MMC\{5C659257-E236-11D2-8899-00104B2AFB46}” does not exist, create them as explained below. Then, create a string value “Restrict_Run” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can disable snap-in. However, if you want to enable back the snap-in, delete the subkey “{5C659257-E236-11D2-8899-00104B2AFB46}”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The snap-in “WMI Control” is disabled.

“WMI Control” snap-in is shown.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\], key and create a new key with the name "MMC" under "Microsoft".

Then, create a "{5C659257-E236-11D2-8899-00104B2AFB46}" key under "MMC".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a String Value with the name "Restrict_Run" in "{5C659257-E236-11D2-8899-00104B2AFB46}" key.

Next, right-click on "Restrict_Run" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as '1' and click 'OK'.
