Disable DCOM on your computer.

This tweak lets you disable DCOM.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) is a protocol, which enables software components, distributed network applications, Internet protocols such as HTTP to communicate directly over a network. Earlier, it was named Network OLE. If this setting is disabled then the functionality of operating system may be lost. COM objects may not function fully, if they are started remotely. Disabling DCOM may result in:

• The local COM+ snap-in will not be able to connect to remote servers to enumerate their COM+ catalog.
• Certificate auto-enrollment may not function correctly.
• Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) queries against remote servers may not function correctly.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the String value “EnableDCOM”, in the right panel, to “N” which can disable DCOM. However, if you want to enable the feature back, change the value data to “Y”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

To disable DCOM on a Windows 2000-based computer, you must be running Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later.
