Disable universal plug and play host services

This setting disables universal plug and play services.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows Vista
Windows XP support Universal Plug&Play services. This service supports self-connecting and self-configurating devices that communicate using standard LAN protocols. There are no UPnP devices available these days, so these services are also not required. They are security risk also.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “\CurrentControlSet\Services\upnphost\” is not present, create it as explained below. Create a REG_DWORD value name "Start" (if this value doesn't exist). Right Click on the Option “Start”, and from the drop down menu, select Modify. In the Modify dialog box, enter Value Data "4" to disable and "3" to enable the setting.

Close the registry and click OK.
Restart the system.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The 'Universal Plug and Play ' services are disabled after the changes.

The 'Universal Plug and Play Services' are enabled.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\upnphost\] key, right-click on the "Start" DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "4" in the text box and click on 'OK'.
